What is an Applicant Tracking System (ATS)?

An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is software that enables the electronic handling of recruitment and hiring needs from receiving resumes to hiring employees. There are several available to employers and recruiters. ATS is very similar to customer relationship management (CRM) systems, but are designed for recruitment. A critical aspect of ATS is Résumé parsing. Also known as CV parsing, résumé extraction, or CV extraction, it allows for the automated extraction, storage and analysis of résumé data. Four Résumé Tips for ATS: 🔆 ATS ignore the header and footer details. Do not put important information in this area. 🔆 Use appropriate keyword optimization. These keywords are found in the job advertisement. 🔆 Graphics add interest to résumés but they are meant for the human eyes. The ATS does not interpret graphics (charts, graphs, images). ATS ignores graphics.

Warning: CANVA resumes are not ATS compatible. 🔆 When uploading your résumé, use appropriate file formats. Follow application instructions. Check for a provided list of acceptable file formats. PDF, .doc or .docx are the most popular. formats. Remember not all ATS work in the same manner.
